Stereophonics formed in 1992 and was originally known as "Tragic Love Company," taking one word from each member's favourite band. The band first consisted of Kelly Jones (vocals/guitar and songwriter), Richard Jones (bass), and Stuart Cable (drums). Cable was fired by the other two members of the band in September 2003, and the band replaced him on the road with the former drummer for The Black Crowes, Steve Gorman. After a decade's worth of studio albums (4 number 1's) the band scored its first number 1 single with Dakota, the first single of their fifth album . The recording of this album demanded the inclusion of a new drummer, Argentinian-Venezuelan Javier Weyler.

I got a phone call today from Mr. Nice
He has oftened called...once or twice
He's on stage in town asked me to come down
I was five minutes late I had to pop by the gates
I stood at the side and I listened and I tried
To imagine a life that gave him that smile
An audience where that reads on the bill
A man that made his millions smugglin' for thrills
